Meadowhall & Sheffield Hospitals Charity

Red Shoe Walk – Sunday 3rd August

Get ready for the Red Shoe Walk! A fun, family-friendly walk around the outskirts of Meadowhall.

You can don your own pair of red shoes, or grab a free pair of red shoe covers before walking the 3km route in aid of Sheffield Hospitals Charity.

You’ll be helping us raise funds to support people affected by dementia.

Sonic the Hedgehog will be there (in his red shoes!) and will be joined on stage for a warm-up by some very special guests…more to come on this soon.

There’ll be exclusive retailer discounts available on the day for people taking part in the walk.

Places cost just £5 per adult, £3 per child (up to age 12) or £14 for a family of four.
Under 3’s go free!

Registration from 9am, walk starts at 10am.

Why Red Shoes?

The colour red can increase brain wave activity in people with dementia. It easily catches their attention. It’s a colour that can be seen clearly, even through to the late stages of dementia.

Help us create a sea of red around the shopping centre and show your support.

Everyone who takes part will get an exclusive Red Shoe Walk t-shirt to wear on the day.

Our route is flat and accessible making it ideal for all ages and abilities.

We are proud to support Sheffield Hospitals Charity, raising money to fund projects that will have a lasting impact on dementia care.

Funds raised will help improve hospital spaces and activities, provide specialist dementia training for NHS staff, volunteers and caring family members and help people with dementia to live independently.

You can read more about their work on the Sheffield Hospitals Charity website here and access useful resources if you, or a loved one has been diagnosed with dementia.

*You must register for the walk in advance. We are unable to offer places to join the walk on the day. Registration closes midnight Sun 27th July 2025.

FAQs

Registration is open from 9am, this is where you will sign-in and collect your t-shirt

A warmup will take place from 9.30am, with the walk starting at 10am.

The walk starts at 10am and is 3km in distance, we anticipate this will take attendees between 30 minutes – 1 hour to complete depending on their walking speed. Once you have completed the walk, we encourage you to go into the Meadowhall Shopping Centre to make use of the discounts available on the day (participating stores only, you must be wearing your Red Shoe Walk t-shirt to qualify for the discounts).

Please sign up by Sunday 27th July.

Unfortunately, we are unable to allow sign ups on the day. This is because we want to make sure everyone who takes part has enough time to fundraise before the event, and so we can make sure you get your event t-shirt. This also ensures the safety of everyone taking part.

The Red Shoe Walk has no age restrictions, however everyone, including children, must register to take part in the event. All participants aged 0 to 15 (inclusive) must be registered by a parent or guardian and accompanied by an adult on event day.

The Red Shoe Walk is 3km in distance and follows the canal path around the outskirts of Meadowhall Shopping Centre. The route is considered ‘easy’ and is flat and accessible.

As a participant, you are responsible for ensuring that you, your child(ren) and anyone else on your booking are sufficiently fit and healthy to take part in the event. Any

participant unsure of their physical ability to take part in the event must seek medical advice from their GP prior to the event.

No. The Red Shoe Walk is a non-competitive walking event and running is not permitted.

The Red Shoe Walk will only be cancelled or postponed in the event of extreme weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances. In this event, we would look to transfer your place to a new date for the event.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome. The event will be busy, with lots of people and potentially other dogs, so keep your pet’s best interests in mind. Please bring bags to pick up any waste and water to keep your pooch hydrated. Please also note that only registered support dogs are allowed into the inside of Meadowhall shopping centre itself.

We completely understand that plans change. Please get in touch to let us know and we can remove your fundraising page from the campaign.

Unfortunately, all registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Yes! We need volunteers in a variety of roles to help make the event run smoothly. To register as a volunteer, please complete this online form  or contact the Sheffield Hospitals Charity office on [email protected] or 0114 700 4430

The event village is located in orange carpark, with the closest toilets being in the Oasis centre of Meadowhall. This is approximately a 5-minute walk.

The walk will offer two opportunities to head into the centre for the toilets at Oasis and Marks and Spencer – our friendly Marshals will be able to direct you.

Unfortunately, only people with tickets will be able to enter the event village and participate in the walk. Anyone wanting to come to the event village only will still need to purchase a ticket.

Your confirmation email will need to be shown as your ticket to register for the event on the day – either by printing the email or showing this on your phone.

We ask everyone who takes part in the Red Shoe Walk aims to raise a minimum of £40, but there’s nothing to stop you raising more than that!

Whilst we don’t require your fundraising target to be met in order to take part in the Red Shoe Walk, we hope you will join us in raising as much as possible for dementia care initiatives across Sheffield.

Once registered, you will be automatically redirected to ‘Just Giving’ where we have put together a handy template for a fundraising page. You can personalise this page, then just click ‘publish’!

Once published, you can share this far and wide with friends, family and colleagues, encouraging them all to contribute towards your walk and donate to a worthwhile cause.

If it’s your first time fundraising, asking for donations can be daunting. But don’t be scared, friends and family want to support you! Just explain what you’re doing and why you’re doing it, then ask. If you don’t get any donations the first time, you can always ask again later.

You’ll receive further information and tips from our dedicated fundraising team to help you along the way.

If you would prefer a sponsor form to collect cash, or a collection tin to display in a shop or at an event for example, please contact us on [email protected] or call 0114 700 4430.

Not to worry! You can add cash donations to your Just Giving page by following the instructions on this web page: https://help.justgiving.com/hc/en-us/articles/200669531-How-do-I-add-money-that-I-ve-raised-offline

You will then need to drop the cash off with us at Sheffield Hospitals Charity. To arrange to drop off your cash donations, email [email protected]. If you think you will be unable to drop off your cash donations, please call us on 0114 700 4430.

By raising money through our Red Shoe Walk, you’ll be helping the NHS in Sheffield to provide the best possible care, at the right time, for people living with dementia, their carers and loved ones – both in and out of hospital.
