Collegiate fashion

Nothing says a fresh start like Taylor Swiftesque preppy wardrobes with chunky loafers, this season’s colourful rugby shirts and pleat minis all set off with a teeny-tiny bag while, for the guys, it’s doubling up hoodies and varsity jackets. Autumn/winter boots and shoes

Fluffy, fuzzy shoes are the unmissable breakout trend for the season inspired by the catwalks of Gucci, Erdem, Carven and Stella McCartney – display them with a monochrome look for full impact.

For the everyday, go for Dr Martens breakout Maybole Mary Janes and Birkenstock Bostons (the ultimate street style guide to styling them is here). Chunky boots, a dash of red, ballet flats, Nike Cortez, New Balance Classics 327 and Gola Torpedos are also enjoying the moment.

Head to Office, Foot Locker, Footasylum, schuh, Next, H&M plus Carvela, Clarks, Dr Martens, Dune London, Kurt Geiger, Zara and Mango.

Vintage leopard and spaghetti strap LBDs

Leopard print is a perennial but this season it’s been given a more elegant retro vibe according to Glamour plus H&M’s much hyped collaboration of the season features Charli XCX in a glorious faux fur take so take note…

Pair your leopard print with this season’s 90s-style little black dress with spaghetti straps as modelled by Zendaya at Paris Olympics opening night party and Olivia Rodrigo at Venice Film Festival.

Go shopping at H&M, Flannels, Zara, Mango, Marks & Spencer, Hollister, Urban Outfitters, River Island and Primark.

The must-get accessories for autumn/winter 2024

Kurt Geiger is one of the biggest luxe high street names of the moment and their new Chelsea Hobo bag (as modelled by Emily Ratajkowski) will be all over your socials. It’ll be joined by burgundy shoulder bags, sparkling layering (see Pandora), bag charms, chunky pearl earrings, hair bows and cute claws, scallop-edged scarfs, long bags and baker boy caps. Finally, the torque sculptural necklace will be a simple and elegant way to channel Gigi and Bella.

Head to New Look, AllSaints, Next, Goldsmiths, Pandora, Michael Kors, Gucci Boutique, Accessorize, Lovisa and Mango.

Trenchcoats galore

Everyone wants the perfect trenchcoat (Vogue’s shape guide is here) and this season has every design under the sun: belted, unbelted and boxy with plaid, tartan and herringbone patterns coming to the fore. Mix in the cape trend too with a crop version from New Look,  H&M, Zara, Mango, River Island or Primark.

Cosy autumn interiors and seasonal colours

The big interiors looks for this season are reflecting where we’re at right now – so think autumnal oranges and muted browns mixed with cosy cottage core of textured blankets, layered rugs and pillows that let you snuggle up.

For more statement looks, it’s all about geometric tableware and crazily shaped lamps and rugs (oranges, mushrooms and cowboy boots).

Head to Joe Browns, Next, TK Maxx, Primark, Kenji and Flying Tiger Copenhagen.

The big nail colours

Dark and mysterious is making for a welcome palate cleanser from summer’s pastels. Superdrug Studio London has some amazing colours including Black Cherry Red and Chocolate Brown. Greys, ecru and navy are also going to be big along with metal detailing and clean nails.

Head to Flannels, Boots, Lush, Next and Superdrug or get a demure mani at Townhouse or Mint Nail & Beauty Bar.

Frills and boho are back

Actresses Sydney Sweeney and Daisy Edgar-Jones wearing Chloé frills are your going-out spirit animals for autumn – think flowing locks and even more flowing chiffon paired with traffic-stopping heeled boots (extra points if they’re over-the-knee). Check out Mango, Flannels, H&M, Zara, Marks & Spencer, Urban Outfitters, River Island and Primark.

Denim and suede are having a moment

If there’s one major moment this autumn, it’s going to be soft suede which is all over accessories, boots and jackets (perfectly timed for Lana Del Rey’s forthcoming western album).

Look for tan hues, fringed jackets, bucket bags, suede Adidas Samba and Veja Camp trainers and cowboy boots. Mix it up with this season’s darker denim which should be worn doubled up and baggy.

See Next, Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger,Levi’s, H&M, River Island, AllSaints, Mango and Zara.

Embrace soft tailoring

Quiet luxury is now evolving into soft tailoring – think draped and folded skirts and trousers, soft and luxurious materials and elevated knitwear. The trend also extends into menswear as Saint Laurent went for soft suits – wear them with tees and chunky chains for a slightly more streetwear vibe.

Try H&M, Flannels, Zara, Mango, Marks & Spencer, Hollister, Urban Outfitters, River Island and Primark.

Finally, here are the big beauty trends

Chuck out your mascara or make it super-minimal as this season is about matte deep plum and burgundy lips that take centre stage (Dior, Mac and Rimmel have everything you need while Flannels’ beauty trends has a go-to guide).

If you’re going big on eyes, add an unexpected dab of colour (think blush pink and popping blue) into the inner corner of your eye. Hair should be cascading boho style or smoothly held back in the style of a chic 50s siren.

Complexion wise, CeraVe’s new Skin Renewing Vitamin C Serum & Eye Cream will help make your skin look smoother and brighter (apply before your SPF to make it even more effective) while other TikTok legends include Charlotte Tilbury Foundation Stick, Fenty Beauty Soft’Lit Naturally Luminous Longwear Foundation and Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops.

Finally, pre-order your Christmas beauty calendars now from Boots and Superdrug which has Nivea for Men, Real Techniques and Baylis & Harding specials while Superdrug are releasing Halloween Limited Edition Fruity Body Sprays with pumpkin scents ready for the new season. Spicy!

Head to Flannels, Boots, Lush, Next and Superdrug. Don’t miss the brand-new gorgeous Townhouse in The Lanes and the Mint Nail & Beauty Bar for nails, Brows, The Fragrance Shop and The Perfume Shop.
