21 family day out ideas for Easter

Easter is arriving on Friday 3rd April and Meadowhall in Sheffield has a host of ideas and brilliant things to do for families day out over the school holidays. 

With kids’ eat-free menus (and special offers), movies, a brilliant playground, climbing, trampolining and arcades, shopping, craft ideas, toy shops and more – get planning with our helpful guide. 

1. See a brilliant kids’ movie

Catch up on family films. Book online for Vue at Meadowhall for £5.99 tickets and enjoy upcoming family films including The Land Of Sometimes (20th March), The Magic Faraway Tree (27 March), Bluey At The Cinema (27 March) and The Super Mario Galaxy Game (1 April). They’re also showing classics including Romeo & Juliet (30th Anniversary edition that’s perfect for teens), Matilda and The BFG (check what’s on here).

2. Discover delicious street food

Meadowhall is home to some of the best on-the-go places in the world. From spicy fried chicken and fries to fresh sushi and noodles via delicious Greggs sausage rolls and Harriet’s welcoming Yorkshire menu. 

Head to Barburrito, Chopstix, East Street, Five Guys, KFC, Let’s Sushi, Maki & Ramen, McDonalds, Pizza Hut Express, Popeyes Chicken, Pret, Rolled and Slim Chickens. 

3. Plan an Easter egg hunt

At home, in the local park with their friends, for a family get-together… It’s time to start planning your Easter egg hunts (we love Marks & Spencer’s Easter Egg Hunt Tin) so head to Hotel Chocolat, Sweet Tradition, Lindt, Flying Tiger Copenhagen and Poundland for all the chocolate and sweets you need.

4. Build something amazing at Lego

Lego has some really fun Easter-inspired ideas including Bugs Bunny, an Easter wreath, a Cute Bunny and Easter egg basket… Head in store and lose yourself making your own Lego figure and sets – they also run lots of in-store creative sessions for all ages and have interactive tables of blocks for the smallest of hands. 

5. Get rock climbing or head to soft play with toddlers

Rock Up is home to 17 exciting climbing walls, the Stairway to Heaven challenge and brilliant soft play from £2.95 for younger adventurers.

6. Make pretty Easter cards decorations and more

7. Have a ball with inflatables

Air Haus is the inflatable theme park like no other with one-hour sessions featuring drop slides, dual ninja run, obstacle course, climbing wall, wrecking ball, ball pools and air bags.

8. Go head to head on a family games day 

Head to Fun Station for a fun day out taking each other on in carnival games, arcades, immersive video games, prize-winning games and VR with Ghostbusters, Zombyte and Cyberpunk games. 9. Tuck into welcoming kids’ and free menus

Keep an eye on M&S Cafe, Frankie & Bennys, TGI Fridays and Zizzi who often run kids-eat-free or for £1 with adult meals during the school holidays. 

For great kids’ menus, head to Pizza Express (£8.50 for three courses and fun pack), Las Iguanas (free main, two sides and dessert with adult meals booked through the app), Nando’s (from £6.95 for main two sides, drink or dessert), The Real Greek (£7.50 menus), and wagamama (£7.50 menus). 

10. Toys for special treats

14. Go jumping

AirHop is the new bouncing destination at Meadowhall with huge trampolines stretching wall to wall, performance trampolines, laser tag and ninja course. Open Jumps are open to 4+, Toddler Takeovers are for 1-6 years with sensory toys and bubble time plus there’s a cafe, party packages and family passes from £55 for four people. 

There’s also SEN sessions every Monday from 6-7pm with a calmer environment and free tickets for carers. They even do sleepovers for Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies, Cadets, or any other organised youth clubs. Book it here. 

15. Hit the free playground

Don’t miss the get-active adventure Riverside Playground at Meadowhall. With the climbing zone, slides and sandpit, kids absolutely love it while making new friends. Plus, it gives you a chance to have a welcome sit down while they burn off energy! 

16. Go bowling

Clubhouse is so much fun for a family day out. They’ve got bowling (under 10s are £7), mini golf, golf SIM and shufl with a junior’s menu of mac and cheese, club sandwiches, chicken and fries, churros and ice cream. Book yourself in here. 

17. Do some baking
