Support services for people impacted by cancer
Weston Park Cancer Charity’s free support services are available to anyone across South Yorkshire, Bassetlaw, and North Derbyshire who has been affected by cancer. They include peer support groups, welfare advice, complementary therapies, a confidential helpline, and a free transport service.
The charity’s transport service provides patients with a safe, reliable way to get to and from their appointments. We have been a proud supporter of this service since 2023,with a regular charity shuttle-bus operating from Meadowhall.
Meadowhall also acts as a location for Weston Park Cancer Charity’s Big Purple Bus project. This key service brings the work of the charity directly into the community. Every month, our shoppers can access the charity’s expert advice and information by speaking to the healthcare professionals on board.
Treatment enhancements and hospital improvements
Weston Park Cancer Charity funds treatment enhancements which ensure that patients in our region get the best possible care. In practice, this could mean anything from refurbishing wards to funding hospital-led projects.
This year, the charity launched the ‘see it. treat it.’ appeal, which seeks to raise £1.85 million for a revolutionary MRI Simulator cancer scanning machine. This powerful tool will enable clinicians to target cancer cells more accurately, while sparing healthy tissue. This will reduce side effects for patients and should boost survival rates across our region.
Groundbreaking cancer research
Alongside treatment enhancements, Weston Park Cancer Charity funds the world-class cancer research and pioneering clinical trials that take place at Weston Park Cancer Centre.
These projects push our understanding of cancer forward and take us closer to the treatments of the future. Weston Park Cancer Charity supports this work by providing grants to researchers which pay for specialist equipment and vital members of staff.
We have exciting plans for the year ahead! Follow Weston Park Cancer Charity on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn for updates.
