Meadowhall Spreads Festive Cheer

Meadowhall has partnered with Age UK Sheffield and local schools to bring communities together this Christmas, helping to raise awareness of loneliness and spread festive cheer across the city.

Working alongside Age UK Sheffield, Meadowhall is supporting local Tea Dance attendees while shining a light on the issue of loneliness during the festive period. The initiative focuses on connection, community, and ensuring older people feel valued and supported at Christmas.

As part of the campaign, pupils from local Sheffield schools, were invited to hand-write specially created Christmas cards, sharing heartfelt festive messages. These cards were then distributed by Age UK Sheffield to members of the local community, helping to bring warmth and kindness to those who may feel isolated.

Tackling Loneliness at Christmas

The initiative forms part of Meadowhall’s wider Christmas community programme, delivered in partnership with Age UK Sheffield, with the aim of bringing people together and tackling feelings of loneliness and social isolation.

New research commissioned by Meadowhall in partnership with the Mental Health Foundation revealed that 48% of people across Sheffield experience feelings of loneliness at Christmas, while 43% say they wouldn’t know where to turn for support when struggling with loneliness or isolation. Festive Tea Dance at Meadowhall

To mark the initiative, Meadowhall hosted a special festive Tea Dance, welcoming its regular tea dancers alongside pupils from Limpsfield Junior School. The event gave children the opportunity to personally hand-deliver their handwritten Christmas cards, creating meaningful moments of connection across generations.

Meadowhall’s weekly Tea Dance continues throughout the year, inviting older members of the community to enjoy live music, dancing, and a free tea or coffee. The sessions offer a welcoming space to socialise, meet new people, and spend quality time with friends in a supportive and inclusive environment.
